physical treatment

physical treatment

The basic purposes of physiotherapy and rehabilitation department is to diagnose and treat pain and functional disorders due to musculoskeletal system, to teach healthy individuals about protection from muscle, joint and connective tissue diseases, to maximize physical and psychosocial levels of the individuals who have limited physical functions as a result of different diseases and disabilities to make them return to their daily lives as independent, reproductive and confident.

Physical examination and detailed evaluation of the patients are performed by physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist and a patient oriented treatment is planned and applied.

Our physiotherapy and rehabilitation clinic is equipped with state-of-art devices and therapies are applied by experienced physiotherapists.

Main devices that are used in electrotherapy in our physiotherapy department:

ESWT, low level laser, ultrasound, TENS, diadynamics, galvanic current, vacuum interference, short wave diathermy and radar diathermy, Functional electric stimulation, Hydrotherapy, Paraffin, Pneumatic compression, CPM, Traction.

ESWT (extracorporeal shock wave therapy):

It is a very effective therapy method used for treatment of tendon and soft tissue diseases resistant to the treatment. This method is used especially for tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and calcific shoulder tendinitis cases and successful results are obtained.

main diseases treated

Neck pain:

We observe neck pain and stiffness in a very large population from young individuals to advanced ages by technological development and increase in immobility. Loss of cervical lordosis, congenital differences in the bone structures, cervical disc hernia, disc deformation, calcification, vertebral sliding, rheumatic diseases, infections and tumors may cause neck pain. The disease is diagnosed after examinations and tests; muscles and spine are assessed; patient-specific physiotherapy and rehabilitation therapies are performed.

Back pain:

Common causes for back pain are posture disorders, muscle strain, cervical disc hernia, hernia on dorsal spine and other disc disorders. Osteoporosis, diseases affecting the bones, infections, metabolic bone diseases, rheumatic diseases may cause this complaint. A detailed examination by a physician, radiological examination and blood tests when necessary suggest the diagnosis and a patient-specific therapy program is planned.

Low back pain:

All individuals have short or long-term low back pain within a certain period of their lives. Causes for low back pain may be congenital or depend on many causes such as different strains, occupational factors, misuse, immobility, aging, tension or weakness of waist muscles, rheumatic and systemic diseases. Finally, these problems cause degenaration and damage on the discs, joints, ligaments and vertebrae. The most common diseases include disc hernias, vertebral sliding and calcification, strain on vertebra ligaments, tension or stiffness on the muscles, functional disorders of the vertebrae and sacroiliac joints. Majority of low back pain cases respond to physiotherpy and rehabilitation therapies well. Along with pain relieve, muscle strengthening programs enable the patients to return to their daily lives quickly. Patients with low back pain who need surgery also benefit from rehabilitation and vertebral strengthening programs after surgical procedures.

Posture Disorder:

Conditions of modern life gradually make the daily life immobile. To work in office environment which requires longer sitting on a table and in front of a computer in particular, not to allow time for sports and action may cause posture disorders. Posture disorders are important factors that may cause neck, low back and back pain within the process. After a posture evaluation performed by a physiotherapy and rehabilitation specialist, a special exercise program is given to the individual.

Ergonomics:

Ergonomics is to create a living and working environment which conforms with physical and psychological characteristics of human or to make these environments suitable for human. In the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, individuals are taught to use their bodies correctly and to arrange the environment suitable for them during daily life and in the work environment according to their pain and function states.

Problems originating from joints and tissues surrounding the joints:

Problems originating from joints and tissues surrounding the joints: are diagnosed and treated. The purpose of physiotherapy and rehabilitation in these diseases is to relieve the pain, to reduce joint swelling, to recover joint restrictions, to strengthen the muscles and to regain and increase the function loss.

Some of these problems are as follows:

* Tendon damages causing shoulder pain and movement restrictions, bursitis, frozen shoulder, shoulder compression syndrome, joint calcification and muscle strains.

*Calcification on the knee joint causing pain, movement restriction and weakness; lesions of tendons, meniscus and ligaments and patella problems,

*Ankle and foot pain (mechanic disorders, calcification, nerve compression, muscle and tendon problems)

*Wrist and hand problems (joint problems, tendinitis, nerve compression).

Orthopedic Rehabilitation:

* Treatment of joint restrictions and muscle weakness appeared after bone fractures

* Treatment of stretching and rupture of ligaments and tendons.

* Rehabilitation after orthopedic surgeries are the most important therapeutic field of occupation. Rehabilitation therapy is applied to prevent and recover joint restriction, to increase muscular strength and to recover functional loss after orthopedic procedures such as knee arthroscopy due to meniscus and ligament lesions, shoulder arthroscopy, hand surgery, ankle surgery, hip and knee joint arthroplasty.

Rheumatic Diseases:

Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of rheumatic diseases and soft tissue rheumatism (fibromyalgia) which are presented by findings like joint pain, joint swelling and stiffness are among important fields of occupation.

Osteoporosis

Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of osteoporosis which is an important health problem for risk of fracture are performed by our specialists; patients are informed about the preventions that will be taken for protection from osteoporosis and trained for exercises of osteoporosis.

Neurological rehabilitation:

Rehabilitation therapies are pplied for training of walking in cerebral paralyzes, cerebral traumas and paralyzes due to spinal injury, neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis, removing balance disorders, increasing muscle strength, regaining functions of hands and arms. Therefore, a suitable therapy plan is detected by functional evaluation of the patient and rehabilitation therapy is performed.

Carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve compressions:

Numbness, tingling, pain and power loss due to nerve compressions on arms and legs mainly caused by nerve compression on the wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome) and nerve compression on the elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome) are common health problems. Treatment and prevention of these problems create a significant part of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Lymphedema:

Lymphedema is treated by manual lymph drainage, pneumatic compression and bandage methods.

Injections:

Injection treatments are common therapy approaches applied along with physiotherapy by Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation specialists. New methods used for pain originated from the spine and joint were included in our department. Mesotherapy, injections into the knee, shoulder and joint, epidural injections for low back pain, sacroiliac joint injections, coccyx injections are samples of these injections.

Athlete Health:

Sports-induced injuries and disabilities due to sports are common both in professional athletes and those who make sports to stay healthy.

First, individuals are informed about precautions to prevent disability. In case of injury and disability, examination and required tests are performed and it is treated after diagnosis. The basic purpose is to make the patient return to the sports desired after termination of the therapy process.
