neonatal intensive care unit

Liv Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit aims for babies to receive the most accurate treatment possible with its expert team and advanced technological incubator like equipment hardware.

Babies are in separate rooms in the intensive care unit…

Severe infections experienced in the hospital negatively affect the brain development of babies, and it can leave serious lifetime sequelae. Each baby receives intensive care service in a separate room in Liv Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for the first time in Turkey in order to eliminate the risk of infection. No hospital infection has been observed in newborns in the clinic. All babies hospitalized in the unit are treated extremely carefully about administering antibiotics via rational use of antibiotics.

Separate room for every premature

The rate of infection in the unit is only 2% because premature (preterm) babies, who requires particularly sensitive care, are performed the necessary treatment and care in separate rooms. Although, this figure is around 15%-20% in international average, the survival rate in babies born with very small birth weight, weighing less than 1000 grams, is 100% in our hospital.

Who are forming the Neonatal intensive care team?

There is an experienced neonatal intensive care team working 24 hours in the hospital. The team is consisting of young and dynamic specialist physicians, Ismail Gonen, MD, Eda Balanlı, MD working under surveillance of Gulnihal Sarman, MD and Pinar Dayanikli, MD who broke grounds in the neonatal field in Turkey for years, and Pediatric Surgeon Asst. Assoc. Prof. Safak Karacay, MD.

We act in cooperation with experienced physicians

A multidisciplinary approach by taking support from other departments is adopted when required while restoring the babies’ health. Cooperation is carried out with highly experienced physicians in pediatric neurology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric endocrinology, cardiovascular surgery, retina and neurosurgery departments.

Examinations beside the incubator…

Examinations such as ultrasound imaging, direct radiography, retinal examination, hearing tests, brain EEG and heart ECHO can be performed at the bedside without moving babies of the bed in the unit. Medical examinations of the babies can be performed in comfort and safety thanks to these portable technological services.

Severely premature babies are discharged healthily

Severely premature (preterm) babies and neonates in the other risk groups are discharged healthily in Liv Hospital Neonatal Care Unit, where neonatal intensive care technology is merged with experience. Newborns with risk may need to be followed-up in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) after birth. All patients discharged from the NICU need to come to the Risk Infant Follow-up Outpatient Clinic.
