brain and nerve surgery

brain and nerve surgery

The diagnosis and treatment of brain and nervous system diseases that are seen in both adults and pediatric patients are performed in Liv Hospital Brain and Nerve Surgery (Neurosurgery) Clinic . Advanced applications that require high technology and experience can be performed precisely in clinic. The quality and safe health services are provided with expert staff who are required by complex surgery and with the technological infrastructure, a world-class equipment.

Ideal Treatment with Oncology Council

In the Liv Hospital Neurosurgery Clinic, in the histopathological evaluations of operated brain tumors as well as microscopic examination, immunohistochemical panels that consist of 9-14 subunits are applied and the results are discussed in the the weekly tumor councils that include Neurosurgery, Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Neuroradiology and Pathology experts. In this way the after surgery ideal treatment diagram of the patients is formed and it is determined whether the patients need for additional therapies such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

High Performance in Complex Diseases

Considering the quality and difficulty degree, the most of the operated surgery are the diseases such as complex brain and spinal cord tumors, aneurysms, arteriovenous neural formation, trigeminal neuralgia, parkinson disease and dystonia and furthermore the approaches to diseases that are located in general neurosurgery (neurosurgery) practice were performed. In Liv Hospital Brain Surgery Clinic the infection and complication rate was defined as 0% at the last year’s featured brain surgery.

Superior Equipment

In our clinic the risk of neurological function loss is minimized by performing electrophysiological neuromonitorization when necessary. All cranial cases are monitored with the common approach of neurosurgery and intensive care team on the first day after the operation in the intensive care unit that is arranged as single bed isolated rooms and they are generally transferred into their rooms the day after and are discharged from the hospital in the safest and most appropriate term for patient. In almost all of the patients the blood transfusion was not necessary. Experienced teamwork and advanced technological equipment play an important role in obtaining these results.

The pediatric department of our hospital plays an active role primarily in the preoperative assessment and postoperative follow-up of pediatric patients and the patients are being followed by pediatric specialists as long as they stay in hospital.

Satisfying Results in Tumor Operations

Symptoms and findings of brain neoplasms (tumors) may occur with complaints such as headache, nausea and vomiting associated with the increase of intracranial pressure, and fundus edema, progressive motor losses, convulsing, and changes in the level of consciousness and hormonal disorders. Adjuvant treatment methods such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy are not required if significant part of brain neoplasms can be removed completely in surgical manner. Although it seems removed completely using surgical methods, radiotherapy and chemotherapy may be required within the following period in some neoplasms with high recurrence possibility.

The main objective in the treatment of tumors is to destroy the tumor without compromising the patient’s quality of life or, at least, to extend the healthy quality of life as far as possible.

Fluorescence Guided Neurosurgery

In fluorescence-guided neurosurgery, the complete brain can be scanned and entire tumoral region can be identified. Damage to the brain tissue is minimized using this method.

Head and Neck Tumors

Head and neck cancers are among the treatable cancer types when they are diagnosed in early period. Symptoms of most of the head and neck cancers occur at an early stage. Treatment is possible in the head and neck cancers with a surgical intervention performed properly at an early stage without losing the quality of life. Otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery and radiation oncology disciplines which are advancing in parallel to the technological developments of today allow treatment of the head and neck cancers by a rational treatment.

neuro check-up

Why Neuro-Check-Up Is Made?

Like other parts of the body, also the nervous system starts to have difficulty in performing certain functions due to aging. And diagnosis of certain neurological diseases can only be made when disease is advanced. The purpose of this check-up is to early recognize the possible defects in the nervous system and to determine the prevention/treatment options.

For whom is it suitable?

It was designed to in detail neurological/neuro-radiological and neurosurgical assessment of individuals over the age of 50 whether he/she has a disease of the central nervous system or not.

How long does it take?

Neuro-Check-Up is resulted within one day.

What tests are conducted?

Cardiologic check-up is recommended prior to Neuro-Check-Up. Neuro Check-Up includes the following: Detailed neurologic and systemic examination, detailed biochemistry tests where routine and nervous system-specific certain parameters are examined, ECG, lung X-Ray, ECHO, cardiograph and cerebral MRI examination, short neuropsychometry test, and EEG, EMG and other MRI examination required for some patients.

Who assesses the results?

It is advisable to perform the Neuro Check-Up every year.
