Bone marrow transplantation is a successfully implemented method for treatment of cancer and some non-cancerous conditions.
It is used successfully for treatment of Leukemia (AML, ALL, CML, CLL), Lymphomas (NHL, Hodgkin), Multiple Myeloma, Aplastic Anemia, Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), Solid Tumors (Testis Tumor, Ewing sarcoma etc.), Immunodeficiencies and some metabolic genetic diseases.
Diseases Successfully Treatable With Stem Cell Transplants:
Leukemia (blood cancers like AML, ALL, CML).
• Lymphomas
Multiple Myeloma
Aplastic Anemia
Myelodysplastic Syndrome
Solid Tumors (Organ cancers such as testicular cancer and Ewing’s sarcoma)
Immune deficiencies
Some metabolic diseases
In Liv Hospital Ankara Bone Marrow Transplantation Center, every kind of autologous (using patient’s own stem cells) and allogeneic (transplantation from sibling, mother, father or non-related donor) transplantations are performed as transplantation types. The aim of allogeneic transplantations from donors with identical, haploidentical tissue groups or non-related donors is the treatment of all patients who are candidates for these treatments Local and international Bone Marrow Banks are contacted and the most compatible donor is found as soon as possible for transplantations from non-related donor. Stem cells are sourced from bone marrow, peripheral blood and umbilical cord blood.
Transplant Types:
Autologous (transplantation of patient’s own stem cells)
Allogeneic (transplantation from sibling, mother, father, non-related donor)
Haploidentical (semi-compatible; mother, father, sibling)
Unrelated (transplantation from unrelated donor)
Stem cell sources:
Bone marrow
Peripheral Blood
Cord blood
